Diamonds are the strongest item in the game ( It used to be second strongest until emarald was removed) . Diamonds are usually located very deep underground (about y=12), alongside being incredibly rare. When a diamond ore is mined, a diamond like the one shown to the right is dropped. The strongest variant of armor, tools, and weapons can be made from diamonds.
History of Diamonds[]
Diamonds were added to the game files in 0.1.2 but they were not obtainable ingame until version 0.3.2. It is rumored that diamonds are rarer than the ones found in the PC and Xbox versions of Minecraft. This is possible because the world is not infinite and that caves have not been implemented yet. In the 0.6.0 update, diamond can be used to craft very strong armor to protect against hostile mobs.
